Teamwork
A team is a group of individuals that work together to achieve a goal.
When people feel like they are being encouraged and valued as a part of a group, they are more likely to participate in an activity or sport as part of that team.
A sense of belonging involves more than simply knowing or recognizing the other people you are playing with. Instead, it involves gaining acceptance, attention, and support from the group, as well as providing the same attention to other members in your group.
Fun fact
The basketball court
As they work together as a team, professional basketball players travel about four kilometres over the course of a game. That’s the same as going from one end of the court to the other about 140 times!

Examine the following images and descriptions. Do these examples show the team encouraging a sense of belonging? Why or why not?
When you are ready, record your thoughts in a notebook or use another method of your choice.
Pause and reflect
If you could create an image that represents a team that values and encourages their teammates, what would you create?
You may use pictures, words, or an audio recording to record your goal.
